~ Ramadan ~

Ramadan has come with blessings descending

With the sight of the new moon our spirits ascending

Hope for a new start, forgiveness and delight

Our spiritual goals set to a new height

Good deeds compounded

And sins forever bounded

The best of months has arrived!

Waking up before the sun shines

Eating and drinking, hoping for our hunger to decline

During the day, our mouths dry

But our hearts in our Lord’s remembrance cry

In anticipation for the ultimate meeting

Our deeds weighed, good and bad competing

Angels ready to welcome us into Heaven

Hell we wish to avoid, gates adding up to seven

Pangs of hunger reminding us of the poor

How fortunate we are to have food in store

As the sun sets, a time when supplications are accepted ... Remembering our family, lost loved ones and humanity at large

Filling our stomachs to get recharged

And then setting off to the Mosque for Night Prayers

Wishing to achieve a lofty status greater than the richest of billionaires

Then the cycle repeats for the rest of the days

At the end, “Eid Mubarak” everyone says

Celebrating as a community in this life

Looking forward to the same in the next, due to our strife

A place where happiness is never deprived!

Who in this world can we trust

With hidden agendas and secretive lusts

In this arena cold, black and dark

Good and bad have never been so less stark

People we meet on a daily basis

How many silent, sly, hidden faces

Phrases we utter to be believed

But is it the the truth that we hope to concede

Where has righteousness gone

The light of wisdom that once shone

Strangers that we could at once befriend

When in need stretch out an arm to lend

Chasing after this world we are occupied

Not caring whether it is good or evil we have personified

Our moral code lost along the way

This world is more than just amusement and play

On that Day we will be judged

Nothing hidden or misunderstood

Good and bad out in the clear to see

How we wish somewhere else we could be

Scales in front of us accurate and precise

Raising to our salvation or ultimate demise

Below us fearing the furious fire

Looking regrettably above at those stationed higher

Now is the time to alternate

To achieve success and not later lament

Letting go of the injustice, evil and hate

Restoring our souls and this earth to its natural state

Expressive and full of motion⁣

Not caring what others say⁣

Of happiness and delight⁣

Walking out of the darkness into the light⁣

How fortunate am I to witness the sight⁣

Seeing myself climb to new heights ...⁣

Remaining composed and calm⁣

Witnessing that there can be no happiness or harm⁣

Except upon His Decree⁣

Who can guide us through trials and tribulations other than He? ...⁣

⁣

And at the end of the day⁣

I will be united with those that pay⁣

The currency of kindness come what may⁣

In the Eternal Gardens we shall all forever play ...

from morning to dusk calling out to the universal Provider 

Who is perfect in every feature

Do you not feel the breeze?

Bringing down the rain and mercy 

Seizing your pain 

Until the beauty of your inner self blossoms

The hardness of the root will be next to forgotten

So allow yourself to shine

and His Love will brighten

Stopping your decline

Increasing your soul's elevation 

Raising you to a Blessed station

Who else can you expect from except the Greatest of Lovers?
